Soldier's Letter, 3 pages, 4to., 1st New Jersey Cavalry, Six Miles from Petersburg, Va., July 23rd, 1864.

First Lieut. Birdsall Cornell (Co. K, 1st New Jersey Cavalry)  writes to his brother:

"...The Rebels have sharp shooters with long Kentucky Rifles and telescope sights, who bother us very much. I think they will kill a man a thousand yards or hit any object of that size once out of three times."
