Autograph Letter Signed (ALS), 4 pages, 8vo., Camp of the 2nd Mass. Inf., In the front June 15th 1864. Soldier Amos P. (Perley) Burnham (Co. C, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, wounded at Cedar Mountain & Chancellorsville,VA) writes to his mother pertaining to the Atlanta campaign. 

"...Yesterday morning our batteries opened on the hill and fired vigorously all day with pleasing results for on getting up this morning we see our flag flying from its hights and the hill occupied by our troops. One of our batteries has been planted on the top and just opened on the retreating enemy so we shall soon hear  orders to move forward. I hear a report this morning that one of our shell killed Gen. Polk (rebel) yesterday while standing by a rebel battery. No doubt they lost many killed and wounded as our artillery had excellent range of the hill and must have done good execution..." For more of the content of the letter, please see the scan.
