Confederate soldier's letter, 2 pages, 4to., Kinston, Lenoir Co. (NC), March 14th, 62. Hugh E. McAulay (Co. C, 37th North Carolina Infantry, died of typhoid fever on 5/23/62 at Lynchburg, VA) writes to his mother a descriptive letter pertaining to the Battle of New Bern, North Carolina.

"...there were two bombs that passed my breast that the wind of them struck my shirt and thousands of musket balls rung around my head but I was not touched...".
