Soldier's Letter, 2 pages, 8vo., Camp Near Brandy Station, Va., Jan. 24th, 1864. Lorenzo D. Miles (Co. E, 3rd Vermont Infantry) writes to his Mother:

"...dropping you a short not(e) to let you know that I am back in Co. E 3rd Vt. Battery F "6th" Arty. starting for Washington this morning and they had Orders to return all the Volunteers to their Regt., so here we are bag and baggage, and just as well ... as though we had kept along with the Battery, for they have gone in to Washington to get the Battery filled up with men and they have to drill  the life half and of themselves while we shall be laying in Camp with but little to do, and it is the Genn opinion there will be but very little fighting before the 1st of June.

The weather is warm and fine as Spring. My health never was better..."
