Confederate soldier's letter, 2 pages, folio, Camp near Germantown (Fairfax County, Virginia). William C. Clayton (Co. I, 4th South Carolina Infantry) writes to his sister. For full transcription of the letter, please see the scans.

Clayton re-enlisted with the Palmetto Sharpshooters, Company I, Pickens Guards, South Carolina Volunteers, in April 1862. He was wounded at Frayser's Farm on 30 June 1862 and died of his wounds on 15 July 1862.

Some fold splits and aging, otherwise dark ink and legible.
