Soldier's letter, 4 pages, 8vo., April 24th, 1863. Two brothers, Joseph & James Orr, both serving in Co. F, 76th Ohio Infantry, write home.

"We had some speeches yesterday about the negroes fighting. Our officers made the speeches but I didn't like quite all they said. Some of them said they would as leave stand by the side of a negro to fight as by a white man. I thought they wasn't as good as an honest negro. Our Lieut. Colonel give them a few words but he is no nigger man..."
