Soldier's letter, 4 pages, 8vo., Head-Quarters, 8th Penn. Regt., Co. M, Camp Pesley, Virginia, January 29th 1862. Michael Livengood (Co. M, 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry) writes to his sister on attractive multicolor patriotic shield and liberty lettersheet. In his letter, Michael relates that he is well, inquires about his siblings including brother Adam (please see our listing for the 175th Pennsylvania Infantry for Adam's letter), and asks postage stamps to be sent to him. He puts his full ID in the letter.

"Michel Livengood

Camp Pesley

Eight Penn. cavalry

Company M

Washington D.C."

Both brothers, Michael and Adam, seem to like to end their letters with a poem.

Michael's is:

"Remember me when this you see

Many a miles the distance be

Between you and me

The grass is green the rose is red

Remember me when I am dead..."

Very Fine. Soldier has bad spelling. Comes with a postally used cover.
