Confederate Soldier's Letter, 2 pages, 8vo., Demopolis, Alabama, 1/9/65. Captain Thompson Alford (Co. G, 2nd Missouri Infantry, wounded at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee) writes:

"Friend Smith

Dear Sir, I received of J. Roby my cloth & letter yesterday at this Place.

I am under many obligations to you for them. I am here trying to draw some money but failed. My wounds are doing well. Able to go on crutches. Will recover without being a criple.

My family is at Uniontown. I am going to move as soon as I can below Linden to Dr. C. Irbys. You wish me to assist you in marking up your record. I will chearfully do any thing I can to help you on with your work.

Write to me at Uniontown care of Dr. Persy, Surgeon in Charge... T. Alford

The No. of killed in my old Co. since on this side of the Miss. River are about 18, wounded some 30 or 40."
