Part printed document parole No. 32, Gainesville, Alabama, May 5th, 1865 for Joseph C. Gartrell (Co. F, 18th Mississippi Cavalry, Genl. Forrest Cavalry Corps), permitting him to return to his home and not to be disturbed by the United States authorities. The parole is signed by Brig. General E. S. Dennis, USA. 

On the verso of the parole is a notation from the Captain of Co."F", 18th Mississippi Infantry, W. A. Raines, which states:

"This is to certify that the named Soldier is the true and lawful owner of one horse."

Usual folds and some aging, otherwise fine.
