John A. Washington (1821-61), Lt. Colonel, CSA, Aide de Camp to Genl. R. E. Lee, George Washington's descendant and last heir to Mt. Vernon. Killed in action at the Battle of Cheat Mountain, West Virginia on 9/13/61.

Autograph Letter Signed (ALS), 1 page, Waveland, April 12th, 1861 pertaining to a vestry meeting.

Waveland was a historic plantation house built 1835 in Fauquire County, Virginia. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

April the 12th 1861, the date the letter was written, marks the beginning of the War Between the States with the bombardment of Ft. Sumter.
