Having ancestors who fought on both sides of the war, Brian has been a passionate student and collector of the war since his youth. He is a member of the Piscataqua Pioneers (first settlers of New Hampshire), Sons of the Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Military Order, Stars and Bars. He is also a former re-enactor in the 21st North Carolina Infantry. Both Brian and Maria are longtime members of The Manuscript Society and the American Philatelic Society.
Both have published over 250 articles and booklets on Civil War Military and postal history, with Brian winning the coveted CSA August Dietz Award for writing and research three times. He became a lifetime member of The Bonnie Blue Society for scholarly research and published literature in the Confederate field. Maria has earned the Bonnie Blue Society Medal for her role in the preservation of Southern History.
Participation in over 90 national and international exhibitions has resulted in twelve International Gold Medals and over 250 National Awards, including several Grand Awards and partaking in the World Series of Philately. Their current exhibit of the Confederate Generals' Wartime mail is the only one of it's kind in existence. They sponsor the Annual CSA Award for the best military mail exhibit.
Brian has had over 20 years professional experience in the authentication field and does consulting and certification in such for many of the nation's leading dealers, auction houses, and expertization societies. Backed by a reference collection and a large library of books on the War, certificates of authentication are available upon request.
Our firm issues four catalogs per year (usually over 250 Civil War items) and participates in major Civil War shows throughout the U.S. A large portion of business is done by mail, telephone, and online contact as we maintain a large and constantly changing stock of material.
