Soldier's Letter, 4 pages, 8vo., Camp near Poolesville, Maryland, October 25, 1862. Alfred McClay (Co. E, 114 Pennsylvania Infantry) writes pertaining to unit flag and military news in the area.

"...That Thursday when we came off of picket we had the state flag of Pennsylvania presented to us by Adjutant General Thomas. It is the stars and stripes of handsome silk with the arms of the state in the corner and 114 P.V. in the middle. The name of the battles that our regiment is in are to be printed on this flag- that is if we ever fight any battles. The Scott Legion & the 141st P.V. got a flag presented to them the same as us...A.McClay"
