Soldier's Letter, 2 pages, 8vo., Suffolk, Virginia, May 3, 1863. Joseph H. Higgins (Company "G", 118th New York Infantry, the "Adirondack Regiment") writes to his aunt about William Higgins, the rebels in Suffolk and about home, in part (some spelling corrected):

"We will have fun with the Rebels soon, they are thick here but you will se 25 Union soldiers where you will see 1 Rebel...... a very large city that the rebels owned and we own it now and I think they will never own it again..... we are in 10 miles of South Carolina and it is hot enough to roast eggs...William Gates is in Washington in ...hospital..."
