Union Soldier's Letter, 4 pages, 8vo., Camp Bliss, Upton Hill, Fairfax Co., Nov. 14, 1862.  Abram Bogart (Co. K, 144th New York Infantry) writes:

"...Upton Hill Fairfax Co. Virginia 9 miles from Washington 6 miles from Fairfax hospital and the third camp that we have been in since we came to Washington and we expect to move from here soon to Manassas Gap. I have just returned from on two days picket being the third time that I have been out from this camp my health is good considering the weather which has been bad and cold. We have had snow and rain and wind here but it is warmer now. I have not heard from Henry and nobody else since we have been here and if you have just let me know when and where for we are guarded all around by pickets Siegel's on the left Cromwell's ours in the center Burnsides on the right to the line of Pennsylvania so you see what chance we have here for our lines are moved every week about and we have to move to keep up with them other wise we have to travel a great ways. There is five regiments here together and one battery. The Sullivan Co. regiment lies by our side. Tell Olmsted boys that Peter  Palin is here and is well and would like to hear from them if they doesnt come. I saw Amner and Emery last night and they are well Kel Olmsted is sick with a cold and Sylvester isnot much better than sick and the rest of the boys draw their allowance when there is a chance for they draw last night and a drunken time they had of it to but it is quite today and nobody knows who done it...there isnot any children to be seen here but darkies and they are scarce as most of the buildings are torn or burnt down for we are on the ground that the rebels left in September (Sharpsburg) when they went into Maryland but they did not return this way. I should like to be with over Sunday but I cant so there is no use of talking for we dont know any Sunday here in this place unless it is a battalion drill or inspection of arms...Direct to me 144 Reg. NYV Co. K Washington DC, Abram Bogart".

Some aging, otherwise fine.
