Soldier's Letter, 4 pages, 4to., "Camp Ford Hillspoint near Washington in North Carolina", May 7/ 63. Adam Lievengood (Co. H, 175th Pennsylvania Infantry) writes to his sister.

"...all our duty we had to do is three men on camp guard every day and our Company is every five days on pickett and drill three hours in a day. That is all our work...William Saybold is taken under arrest for the case to sleep when he was on pickett. We got him in the guard house now..Adam Lievengood".

The letter ends with 2 page poem written by Lievengood "Green Bucks or Pay Day".

"Hurrah brave boys pay day has come our troubles now are over. We've got our pay Uncle Sam which we should had before. We suffered much for want of it while others I dare say have sufferd more for those green backs which we have got today.


Oh, will keep a little and send the rest to loved ones far away..."
