Soldier's Letter, 8 pages, 4to., Chestnut Hill Hospital (in Pennsylvania), Saturday, July 11, 1863. William A. Bartlett (Co. H, 19th Massachusetts Infantry, wounded 7/3/183 at Gettysburg) writes an eyewitness account of this epochal event.

"...We commenced fighting Thursday morning at half past 5 and continued with our guns in out hand ready if they attacked us in the night...but they did not trouble us until daylight Friday morning (July 3)..."
