Soldier's Letter, 6 pages, 8vo., In Camp 4 miles North of Dechert, Tenn., Oct. 6th, 1863. William Edward Perkins (Co. I, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, wounded 5/3/63 at Chancellorsville,VA) writes an interesting, detailed letter.
"...As I said before, we have a nigger regiment here, which has just been raised. Their camp is next to ours, and this morning I went to see Guard-Mounting. They are very green, officers and men. ..."
