Confederate early West Virginia Letter, Head Quarters 2nd Reg, Va. Volunteers, Harpers Ferry 21st April, 1861. Ambrose R. H. Ranson (Adj. 20th Virginia Infantry, captured at Rich Mountain and on the staff of Genl. Pegram) writes:

"...The force here is large, probably 4000 and increasing daily. (John Seldon, Co. G, 2nd Virginia Infantry "Stonewall" Brigade) is here in the Ranks and ready to do his duty."
