Documenr Signed (DS), Parole, Goldsboro, N.C., May 5th 1865:
"The Bearer, J. H. Barnes, Home Guard, a Paroled Prisoner, of the Confederate States Army, has permission to go to his home, and there remain undisturbed".
The parole is signed by Lt. Col. G.W. Rogers of the 4th U.S. Colored Troops and Provost Marshall.
The Home Guard was guarding Union prisoners at Godsboro, NC.
Very rare parole, unlisted in the "Parole, Pardon and Pass..." book.
Reinforced folds, otherwise fine.
