CHARLES D. JAMESON (1827-62), Brigadier General, USA (ME). Participated at Bull Run, Peninsula campaign, Fair Oaks where 'horse was shot under him". DOD ("camp fever") 11/6/62.

Autograph Letter Signed (ALS), 1 1/2 pages, 8vo., Washington (D.C.), Oct. 17/61.

"...I have put this to write you a few lines ... the direction for collecting bounty  of deceased soldiers...

I am very sorry not to have furnished you the desired information sooner but it was impossible. I am getting along nicely thus far - raw Brigade [2nd Maine Infantry, the first Maine unit to leave for the front] but will come out right with I think. My Brigade is stationed on the extreme left of the "Army of the Potomac" five miles from Mt. Vernon, a good honorable position.

Will write you fully in a few days...C.D.Jameson"

Very Fine.
