Charles J. Paine (1833-1916), Brigadier General, USA (MA).  Participated in the Washington D.C. defences, Department of the Gulf, Port Hudson, LA as Colonel 2nd Louisiana Regiment Infantry, Drewry's Bluff, New Market, VA, Fort Fisher, North Carolina campaign with Sherman, Defender of "America's Cup" yacht races.

Document Signed (DS), folio, Muster Roll for Field and Staff  for the period of Dec.31, 1862 to Feb. 28th, 1863 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Paine signs as Col., 2nd. La. Vols.

The 2nd Louisiana Regiment Infantry was organized at New Orleans, La. on 9/29/62. The unit participated in the defences of New Orleans untill 1/63. Thereafter was moved to Baton Rouge, La. and saw duty there untill May. It also participated in the siege, assaults and surrender of Port Hudson,LA.
