Marcus J. Wright (1831-1922), Brigadier General, CSA (TN). Participated at Belmont, Shiloh (WIA), Kentucky campaign, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, District of Atlanta, District of Macon.

Autograph Letter Signed (ALS), 2 pages, 4to., War Records Office, War Department, Washington, 1/16/96 to autograph dealer Mr. Benjamin.

"...I enclose certain Post Bellum documents, all I have now. It seems to me that the documents signed by general officers giving their commands are quite as valuable as war papers. I also send a number of Post Bellum letters to me.

Take what you want, & fix your price, & return me anything you can not use. Send me check for half value, & credit me with other half on what I owe you. Send me account.

Confederate original papers are getting very scarce here. I hope soon to send you a good lot, but you must exercise the usual patience you have heretofor shown.

If you want anything special let me know. I may not be able to furnish, but will try.

I send by express at your charge. Take the express charges out of what you send me.

Your friend,

Marcus J. Wright"

Very Fine. Interesting content connected to early autograph collecting of Confederate Generals' papers.
